Helping Students Experiencing Homeless Transition to Post-Secondary Education

Presenter: Diana Bowman, former Director of the National Center for Homeless Education, (NCHE)

We all know the importance of post-secondary education, especially for youth experiencing homelessness, yet these students face many barriers in transitioning to higher education. This webinar will discuss these barriers and provide strategies for helping youth experiencing homelessness prepare for and transition to post-secondary education, with particular emphasis on college preparation.

Topics will include:

  • An overview of the challenges youth experience homelessness face when planning for post-secondary education

  • LEA and school support for college and career preparation for students experiencing homelessness

  • Financial support, including completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) as an independent student

  • Facilitation of a smooth transition to post-secondary education.
