The number of students identified as homeless across New York State dropped 3% from 2017-18 to 2018-19.
There were 148,554 students identified as homeless in New York State during the 2018-19 school year, of which:
114,085 students were identified as homeless in New York City
34,469 students were identified as homeless in the Rest of the State, outside of NYC.
The 2018-19 data includes total counts of students identified as homeless by each school district and charter school across the state, as well as county-level data by grade level and primary nighttime residence. The data were collected by the New York State Education Department in the Student Information Repository System (SIRS).
